 See the “tech-ready” office spaces and hear what local leaders are doing to attract new tech business to the area.

TECC members will get a sneak preview of the new building at 1887 Main – a sustainable, Class A, mixed use building intentionally designed for local start-ups and “incubator” stage technology companies.

After the tour, enjoy networking at HEARTH – one of Clark County’s best restaurants. A few community leaders will be there to answer questions about the area’s economic development.

Al Schauer focuses on strategic growth and leadership

A former president and chief executive officer of MacKay & Sposito, Inc. is now offering his expertise on several topics with PointNorth Consulting, Inc., in Washougal Town Square.
After Al Schauer, of Camas, “retired” from the civil engineering firm in the summer of 2011, he decided to only do what he really enjoyed.

“I decided that working at home was not going to work for me, so I began the search for a small office space and wanted to be local in the Camas/Washougal area,” he said. “Wes Hickey’s building, in Washougal, was a perfect choice for me since it fits my desire for sustainable design.”

When Schauer was with MacKay & Sposito, he sat on numerous local and state wide committees relating to low impact development standards and sustainability.

“I am impressed with the design and Silver LEED certification the building [Washougal Town Square] achieved,” Schauer said. “I am also in tune with what this building and the other new remodels and buildings under construction in this Washougal downtown will do for the city of Washougal. This will bring back a very positive identity to the area.”

He provides land development strategies, strategic workforce planning, community facilitation and management and leadership training. Schauer has nearly 40 years of experience preparing and critiquing conceptual plans for residential, commercial, industrial and large scale planned developments. Those projects include Fairway Village and more than 1,000 residential lots in Cascade Park.

Schauer has also overseen the conceptual layouts, entitlement and design of all land development projects prepared by MacKay & Sposito during his tenure. He has served on numerous local and national boards including the Building Industry Association of Southwestern Washington, Responsible Growth Forum Board, Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital, Clark County Stormwater Manual Committee and the Land Development Council for the city of Portland.

Companies that would like to gauge their potential success in the Camas-Washougal market could soon have a new address in downtown Washougal.

The site of an “incubator” building is currently being prepared for construction at 1887 Main St. The building is expected to be ready for tenants in February 2012.
